Odissi Dance in a Pithy Form





Here is a video clip of the Odissi dance presented by the high priestess of this classical dance form, the late Sanjukta Panigrahi. The vocal music is by her husband and the famous vocalist Raghunath Panigrahi, who expired in 2012. The duo made Odissi dance and Odissi music what these are today. She was taken away very early by cancer. Her statue adorns the entrance of Rabindra Bhavan, the venue for the most dance and song programmes at Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha.

This presentation alternatively shows the dance and temple carvings on the Konark and other temples in Odisha. The various nuances of the dance bring to life the poses of carvings on these temples.
